I love a hammock. Always have. I was an early adopter of the ENO DoubleNest and have had one for years. It’s been on my screened porch, in the backyard, in the trunk of my car on every road trip, and strung between trees in more parks than I can count. It is my favorite place to read, nap, think, and do absolutely nothing productive.
When My Hammock Summer started — 30 minutes outside every single day from Memorial Day to Labor Day — the ENO DoubleNest is the hammock I’m sitting in. Every. Single. Day. That’s the only endorsement it needs.
Why I recommend it
The ENO DoubleNest packs down to the size of a grapefruit and weighs less than a pound. You forget it’s in your bag until you need it — and then you’re very glad it’s there. It holds up to 400 pounds, sets up in about three minutes with straps, and comes in enough colors that you can make it feel like yours.
It’s called the DoubleNest because it fits two people. I mostly use it alone and love having the extra room.
What you’ll need
The hammock alone isn’t enough — you need straps to hang it. ENO’s Atlas Straps are what I use and what I recommend starting with. If you want a stationary setup on a porch or in a room, ENO sells a wall-mount bracket system. Planning to share it? The Tandem bars make two-person hammocking much more comfortable. ENO also makes bug nets, rain tarps, and blankets designed to work with the hammock system. Once you start hammocking regularly you’ll find yourself wanting all of it.
One important note
Some parks don’t allow hammocks on trees — either because of bark damage concerns or trail congestion. Always check before you hang, and if the park asks you not to, please respect it. Hammock responsibly.
